 cobra lily

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and I hope someone can advise me...

I have tried unsuccessfully to grow Darlingtonia for the past 2 years, although I seem to be getting better each time with the chilled distilled and/or rain water, humidity & air movement, etc. I'm on my third plant and this one has been alive for ~8 months now. Unfortunately, since the warmer weather arrived in the NJ area, the "cobra heads" have started to brown (the stalks & area nearer the roots are :) still nice and green). I'm wondering whether or not I should take the plant outdoors as it is not in a high light area. Also, thus far, my plants have been bought from Lowes. Would plants from a different supplier make a difference?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Welcome to the forums.

I have always purchased my Cobra plants from Lowes.

I can not grow these outside here in PA. The hotter temps in the summer always cook the plants. I have even tried watering with refrigerated water. I only grow them indoors in a south facing window.
I have also noticed with my several attempts to grow this plant that they do not like to be water logged too long at all. (I do use a pretty airy mix of equal parts lava rock, perlite, LFS moss, and peat moss. I have also killed 2 plants by root rot when not careful in my watering.
This latest plant I have I'm growing in the same soil mix but in an orchid pot so the media will dry quicker. I should have no chance of root rot this way.
